Article 90 – Introduction: The Foundation of the NEC

• 90.1 – Purpose: The NEC's purpose is the practical safeguarding of persons and property from hazards arising from the use of electricity. It is not a design specification or instruction manual for untrained persons.

Minimum Ampacity — Continuous and Noncontinuous Loads (215.2(A)(1)): Feeder conductors must have an ampacity not less than: - Noncontinuous load + 125% of the continuous load - Exception: If the assembly (including OCPDs) is listed for 100% operation, ampacity can equal continuous + noncontinuous load (no 125% multiplier required).

Article 200 governs three things: identification of terminals, grounded conductors in premises wiring, and identification of grounded conductors.
