About This Book
The IMC establishes minimum standards for mechanical systems through both prescriptive and performance-based provisions. Built on broad foundational principles, it supports the use of new materials, methods, and design approaches. Key updates include:
- Pollution control units – New coverage has been added for these systems.
- Type I kitchen hoods – A new exception has been introduced to recognize Type I kitchen hoods listed for clearances to combustibles of less than 18 inches.
- Phenolic duct – Coverage has been added for this newer category of non-metallic ductwork.
- High-Volume Large-Diameter (HVLD) fans – Also known as High-Volume Low-Speed (HVLS) fans, these are now addressed in the code.
- Snap- and Button-lock duct joints – Sealing requirements for these duct joints and seams located within the thermal envelope have been relaxed.
